Teens Taking It to the Streets - and the Roads
Summertime, and the living is easy. But the season is not always so worry-free if
you are the parent of a teenaged driver. The issue of teen driving takes on some urgency in the summer, when
teenagers spend 44 percent more hours driving each week than during the school year. Furthermore, 16-year-olds, no
matter the time of year, have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age. Indeed, motor vehicle crashes are the
leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds in the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) reports. The higher crash rates amongst teenagers can also be attributed in part to the difficulty they have
