CATCH THE SPIRIT

Instead of listening to your kids whine, “I’m bored,” suggest they do something interesting that will also help others—volunteering. Catch the Spirit: A Student’s Guide to Community Service from Prudential Financial and the Federal Citizen Information Center is a free student’s guide to community service. It lists lots of different creative and fun ideas for how young people can get involved. It also provides a “dos & don’ts” list about volunteering to help keep their expectations realistic. You can get more information by consulting the list of national organizations that encourage young volunteers. To order, send your name and address to the Federal Citizen Information Center, Dept. 501R, Pueblo, CO 81009. Or call toll-free 1 (888) 8 PUEBLO, that’s 1 (888) 878-3256, and ask for Item 501R. And visit www.pueblo.gsa.gov to read or print this and hundreds of other FCIC publications for free.
